About forty thousand armed for battle crossed over before the Lord to the plains of Jericho for war. That day the Lord exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they revered him all the days of his life, just as they had revered Moses (Joshua 4:13-14).

In the fourth chapter of Joshua, God parted the waters of the Jordan River and the entire nation of Israel walked across on dry ground.

Israel took possession of the Promised Land by trusting in God's strength. Spiritual power does not come from ourselves – it comes from God. Through God's power, Israel conquered the city.
