There are many sources of encouragement quotes - famous world leaders, rich business leaders, even your mom! Consider getting encouragement from the Creator of the world, the One who loves you, and the One who has unlimited power -- God Himself.

We all need encouragement

Life can be discouraging. Years ago, I shared an office with an individual who habitually came to work and greeted me with the words, "Paul, I don't know what's wrong, but I'm in a really bad mood today." I heard this comment almost every day for around three months. It is hard to work with people who are governed by their moods.

Let's get encouragement quotes from Jesus

How do we maintain our joy and passion? How do we keep from losing heart? While there is no simple answer, I believe one clue is found in John 21.

After Jesus was crucified, but before he ascended to heaven, he interacted with his disciples for 40 days. Use your imagination and consider the emotional trauma the disciples experienced during the days surrounding our Lord's crucifixion and resurrection. I'm sure they were discouraged. Even though Jesus was raised from the dead, did they really know what was next? I doubt it. I believe it was a period when Jesus' closest followers needed some encouragement.

Jesus encourages the disciples

John 21 records an episode where some of the disciples had spent all night fishing, but in the end, caught nothing. Early in the morning Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples didn't realize that it was Jesus. He called to them, "Friends, haven’t you any fish?" "No," they answered. He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some."

They did so and were unable to haul the net in because it was so full of fish. Then John said to Peter, "It is the Lord." After they towed the net full of fish ashore, they noticed that Jesus had his own fire with fish and bread already prepared. Then Jesus said, "Come and have breakfast."

Jesus loves to spend time with people and just talk. He's never in a hurry. Reassurance is one of his specialties. Time alone with Jesus is a great source of encouragement. If his followers had lost heart, their time alone with Jesus gave them a chance to rebuild their relationship with him and restore their hope for the future.

You too can have breakfast with Jesus

Today, are you spiritually and emotionally discouraged? Was 2010 especially draining? Then perhaps it's time for you to slow down and "have breakfast with Jesus." If he had the time to draw near to his disciples then, he has time to come close to you today. Friends encourage one another. Jesus is your friend. You can cast all your discouragements on him because he cares for you.

Consider this idea: Early one morning, go to your favorite restaurant and have breakfast with Jesus. When you sit down and open your Bible, you will discover along with the disciples, that Jesus is always there, and there first. Just knowing that is encouraging enough!

For I know the plans for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord (Jeremiah 29:11-14).
