First in a series of four Holy Spirit Bible Studies. Presented in 2008 at the Okoboji Lakes Bible and Missionary Conference, Okoboji Iowa.
Christianity is a living person. . . living in . . . a living person.
BE CONSCIOUS OF CHRIST’S PRESENCE
Ephesians 3:16 Christ will strengthen you through His Spirit in your inner being.
Ephesians 1:13 Having believed, you were marked with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit who is God’s deposit that guarantees our future inheritance.
Ephesians 2:22 You are a dwelling place in which God lives by His Spirit.
THE DIVINE LOGIC OF CREATION
Vegetable Life
Genesis 1:11 Let the land produce vegetation: seed bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seeds in it, according to their various kinds.
The divine logic that replenishes the vegetable kingdom is a combination of seeds and the physical forces of nature.
Animal Life
Genesis 1:20 Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.
Genesis 1:24 Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals each according to it’s kind.
The divine logic that protects the animal kingdom is a kind of built-in computerized program that for convenience, we call instinct.
Human Life
Genesis 1:26 God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” So God created man in his own image.”
The divine logic in the human race is God Himself, taking up residence within man.
MAN AS GOD INTENDED
Genesis 2:7 God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.
I Corinthians 15:44 If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: “The first Adam became a living being.” The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.
THE ORIGIN, SPREAD & CONSEQUENCES OF SIN AND DEATH
Genesis 2:17 “You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will die.”
Genesis 5:3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image.
Ephesians 4:18 You must not live like the Gentiles; they are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God.
THE GOAL OF THE GOSPEL
Ezekiel 36:26 “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you. And I will put my Spirit in you.”
Ezekiel 37:14 “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live.”
John 3:6, 8 “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. The wind blows wherever it pleases. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
Acts 2:38 “…your sins will be forgiven and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
CHRIST IN YOU
I Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you?
Galatians 4:6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts.
I John 3:24 And this is how we know that He lives in us: we know by the
Spirit
He gave us.
God created man to give a physical, visible and audible reflection of an invisible God.
God so engineered man that the presence of the Holy Spirit within the human spirit is indispensable to
man’s ability
to function as God intended.
